Biography

Annie was born April 26, 1867 in Moroni, the seventh child of seventeen. Many of these children died young. When she was only two years old her father took a second wife and after the birth of four half siblings, her father left on a mission to Sweden. At this point Annie was in her teens and it fell on her mother, herself, and her siblings to maintain the family farm.

When Annie was nineteen years old, she married Samuel Blackham on October 28, 1885 in the Logan Temple and together they made their home in Moroni where both their families were settled. Together Annie and Samuel had eleven children.

On May 5, 1915 Annie’s husband died while out working herding sheep. This meant that Annie was left to raise their young children, and run the farm alone. Annie encouraged her children to go to school and that legacy is seen in the accomplishments of several of her children, who graduated from high school.

Annie was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, working in both the Primary as a counselor and member of the Moroni East Ward Relief Society. Annie died at home in Moroni on April 29, 1950 at eighty-three years old. She was buried in the Moroni Cemetery next to her husband on May 2, 1950.
