Biography
Gertrude married a wealthy farm owner 15 years her senior, Son Sorensen. The couple heard the missionaries together, but only Soren's baptism date is known: October 6, 1854. A year later they sold their farm and traveled to Liverpool with their three daughters, Ane (6), Else (3), and Caroline (1). Ane and Else caught the measles as they waited for their ship to port and died in January of 1856. They are both buried at the St. John's Church Yard. The three were able to board a different ship leaving in February, the Caravan. The family immigrated across the Atlantic and migrated halfway through the country when Gertrude died in St. Louis, Missouri in 1856 leaving Soren Sorensen and Caroline to continue the trek.
