Biography
Caroline Pedersen Mortensen was born on May 16, 1850, in Hårbølle, Denmark. She was the youngest of nine children and one of four daughters. In 1855, her family learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they all decided to become members. In 1856, while Caroline was still only five years old, her family emigrated to America and made the difficult journey across the plains to Utah. They were members of the Willie handcart company and encountered many difficulties, but Caroline's whole family survived and made it to Utah. They settled in Parowan, Iron County.
In 1867, when Caroline was seventeen, she married Thomas Durham, and Englishman, in Salt Lake City. She was his third wife. They had ten children together, five sons and five daughters, nine of which lived into adulthood. Caroline lived in Parowan for the rest of her life, where she passed away on August 19, 1915, at the age of sixty-five.
