Biography
Hulda Marie Bergström was born on 18 August 1876 in Östra Ryd, Östergötland, Sweden. She was the eldest child of Ida Karoline Sjöström and Erick Gustav Anderson Bergström. Her family left Sweden when she was 12 to move to Denmark. They settled in Sandvig, Bornholm, Denmark, where she was confirmed in 1890. It was there she met and married Hans Christian Jorgensen, a native of Denmark. It is unknown when she converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints, but it likely occurred here in Denmark. She gave birth to their first child, Hejmer Christian Jorgensen, in Copenhagen in 1900. Within two years, the family emigrated to the United States. They settled with the Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. It would be there that the rest of the 5 children would be born, but of the six, only three would survive to adulthood. The oldest, Hejmer, died at 18; their daughter Leona and their son Frank both died after less than two years. The youngest, listed only as Jorgensen, was stillborn. Two daughters survived their parents, Virginia and Luella. Her husband, Hans, died in 1927 in Salt Lake. Hulda eventually moved to California with her daughters, where she would die on 9 November 1948 at the age of 72. She was buried in Salt Lake City.
