Biography
Johanna Augusta Olsson (went by Augusta Johanna) married Johan Arvid Wahlen in the fall of 1900. They had three sons before moving to the United States in 1903. They eventually settled in Murray Utah, where they had five more kids - three daughters and two sons. In 1922 and 1924, they had two more sons in Aberdeen Idaho, where they lived on a farm. Eventually, they returned to Murray Utah and stayed there until they died. Augusta Johanna spoke only Swedish in her home in the United States, and learned only basic English. Her children learned English in school, but continued to speak Swedish at home. Augusta’s husband Johan and daughter Eva, died in a car accident along with Eva’s husband and son in the spring of 1952, leaving Augusta alone with her other nine children. Life was not the same for her after their death. She died eight years later at the age of 82.
