Biography

Eraimine Georgine Lind or "Jenny" was born on March 26, 1855 in Aalborg, Denmark. She was the fifth of eleven children, and the third of five daughters who lived to adulthood. Sometime around 1850, Jenny's parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1868, when Jenny was thirteen, they made the difficult journey to Utah. Jenny's youngest brother died on the journey across the Atlantic Ocean. The Lind family lived first in Ephraim and then in Levan, Utah.

About a year after their arrival in Utah, in 1870, fifteen-year-old Jenny moved to Salt Lake to work. While there, she met George Freestone, a man from Prince Edward Island, Canada, whom she married in 1872 at the age of seventeen. George was thirty-four at the time and had four children by a previous wife who passed away. In addition to raising these children, Jenny had eleven children of her own, four daughters and seven sons.

George and Jenny settled in Bridgeport, Idaho, for the first few years of their marriage. In 1879, George moved the family to now-Vernal, Utah (then called Ashely Fork). They were some of the first residents of the area and met with extreme hardship with little food for the first few years before their farms were established. However, eventually George did well farming in Vernal. Jenny had six of her children there.

From 1894-1896, George served a mission in Leeds, England, leaving Jenny and the children in charge of the farm. When he came back George was the bishop in Vernal for many years before died in 1920. Jenny lived sixteen more years after her husband's passing. She was a well-respected member of her community and beloved by her family. She passed away on August 30, 1936, at the age of eighty-one.
