Biography

Christina Maja Nilsdotter was born in Kvistbro, Örebro, Sweden on 25 July 1824, the daughter of Nils Jansson and Anna Cajsa Olsdotter. She would live in Kvistbro for 64 years of her life. She married Johan Bengtsson in 1845 and together they would have 10 children. However, not all lived to adulthood.  Four (Johan Emil, Gustaf Emil I, Franz Albert, and Hilda Charlotta) would pass away before the age of 10. Her husband Johan died in 1883 in Kvistbro. At some point before 1889, Christina would become one of the first Swedish converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She immigrated to Salt Lake City in 1889. Of her remaining children, four would also immigrate, leaving Ida Lovisa and Carl Johan in Örebro. She was known as “Mormor” and was the beloved matriarch of a huge clan that grew in the valley. She died on 23 September 1923 in Salt Lake City.
