Biography
“Mary Ann Peterson was born in Denmark Oct 16 1847 and came to Utah with her [family] in 1865, they having joined the LDS church.” They sailed from January 3, 1865 to February 20, 1865 on the ship Jesse Munn. “Death came Thursday, August 9 after a lingering illness the direct cause of death was tumors on the liver. Her parents moved to fountain green in county and it was here she married Thomas J Caldwell, Sr. To them 9 children were born 6 boys and 4 girls… the couple were Pioneers and did much traveling their second move of importance being to Lavan Juab County then to Glenwood in Sevier county then to what is now Price in what was Emery county where Mr. Caldwell and his boys did contract work on the railroad doing the work at Castlegate. Their next move was to the Ashley valley in 1883 and settled in Merrell ward, now Naples ward. Mr. Caldwell was later the first bishop of Merrell ward … later in life a misunderstanding arising between husband and wife they separated and Mr. Caldwell is living in Hurricane, Utah. In a telegram to his son, Bishop Caldwell, he stated ‘Mother’s death causes me deepest sorrow, very sorry I cannot be with you at this time. Please explain to friends and Aurelia.’”
