Biography
Bengta Johannesdotter was born outside Malmöhus, Sweden to Böehl Larsdotter and Johan Stark. When Bengta was nine, her mother married Gustaf Antonsson and gave birth to her three siblings over the subsequent six years. From 1832 to 1841 she worked as a piga, or housemaid, moving from house to house throughout the greater Malmöhus area. In 1842 she moved to Stångby, Sweden for work where she met and married Sven Jonasson. Bengta had nine children, three of whom died in infancy. It is unknown how the Jonasson's first encountered missionaries, but their converted and immigrated to Utah in 1874 with four of their children, Jonas, Lars, Anna, Maria Mathilda. Their remaining two children, Kjersti and Nils, married in 1873 and decided to remain in Europe.
Bengta and Sven settled in Tooele, Utah with their four adult children. She passed away in Tooele in February of 1891.
