Biography

When Inger Mortensdatter was born on 1 March 1826, in Sengeløse, København, Denmark, her father, Morten Madsen, was 22 and her mother, Kirsten Marie Jensdatter, was 25. She married Christian Hansen on 23 January 1846, in Sengeløse, Smørum, København, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. She lived in Sengeløse, Smørum, København, Denmark for about 21 years. She and her family emigrated in 1857, traveling from Liverpool to Philadelphia, then on to Iowa City, where they joined a handcart company. Due to illness, they left the company near Genoa, Nebraska, and lived there in a dugout for a few years before moving into Council Bluffs and then Omaha. They finally finished their trek to Zion in 1861, but Inger died in childbirth on 5 February 1862, in American Fork, Utah, at the age of 35, and was buried there.
