Biography
Clara Gunhilde Olsen was born on February 22, 1859 in Oslo, Norway. She was the fourth child born to Karen Simensen and Gulbrand Olsen. Clara joined the Church in 1871. She travelled to Utah by herself in 1875 and settled in Salt Lake City. Clara married Bowman Cannon on February 9, 1880. They had five children together, but only three of them survived to adulthood. Clara was not a big talker and often struggled to be sociable. She once bore testimony in her relief society that, “We are the children of the same God and should strive to put selfishness away from us.” Clara died on January 21, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery.
