Biography

Ingeborg Månsdotter was born on June 1, 1811 in Säby, Malmöhus, Sweden. She was the fifth of fourteen children. On December 26, 1831, Ingeborg married Ole Nilsson Ahlström in Säbyholm. He was ten years older than her. They had thirteen children together, only six of whom lived to adulthood. In 1854, Ingeborg and her family learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ingeborg was baptized on May 16th.
A year later, they decided to leave Sweden to join the other Saints in Utah. In October 1855, Ingeborg and her family traveled from Copenhagen to Kiel, Germany on the steamship Lyona. There were eight living members of her family: Ingeborg, her husband Ole, Jons Peter, Inger Marie (who later went by Mary Ingrid), Charles Magnus, Wilhelmina, Otto Wilhelm, and John Godfrey. In Germany, the family took another steamship to England and a train to Liverpool, where they boarded the John J. Boyd. They left Liverpool on December 12 and didn't arrive in New York until February 15 of the next year. On the journey, their ship experienced storms, a fire, and a collision with another ship, but Ingeborg and her family made the trip safely.
Once in the United States, they took the train to Burlington, Iowa, where they crossed the frozen Mississippi River on foot. However, they couldn't travel farther without more money, so the family stopped in Iowa while Ole worked felling trees. He was killed in a logging accident on June 13, 1856. Due to her husband's death, Ingeborg and her family stayed in Iowa for more than three years. During this time, in August of 1858, Ingeborg married a man named Rasmus Christiansen. In 1860, she finally made the journey with her new husband and family to Utah. They traveled in the Warren Walling wagon company and journeyed from Florence, Nebraska to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they arrived on August 9, 1860.
It is possible Ingeborg separated from Rasmus and married George Hewlett in 1878, but the records about that are unclear. Either way, it seems that Ingeborg moved to Manti in 1888. There, she attended the temple and did a lot of temple work for her family. She died in Manti on April 10, 1894, and was buried at the Manti Cemetery.
