"I remember Grandmother Caroline McBride as a short, rather plump around the hips, serious, nice looking, little woman always busy; she was a constant worker. I will never forget her voice. It was a bit "rattley " and somewhat nasal . Whenever she stopped to speak to anyone her hand just automatically found her hip and rested there as she talked, (back of hand on hip). When Grandmother dressed up on Sunday she was very nice looking with her strong Danish Character obvious in her face. She seemed to be always in charge of everything in her home. Grandfather was always very quiet and almost always deferred to her. When he did decide to do something on his own he just quietly went about it paying no attention to anyone."
