Biography
Ingeborg Gundersen Ericksen was born in Aust-Agder, Norway to parents Torbor and Erick Gundersen on October 15, 1819. On December 17, 1840, she married Hendrick Ericksen and the two started a family together. After being converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she and her family immigrated to the US, leaving Norway on November 24, 1854 on the steamer Cimbria, reaching England on December 24. From Liverpool, they boarded the James Nesmith and arrived in New Orleans on February 23. They then traveled by handcart in 1855 with the Jacob F. Secrist and Noah Guymond company. Secrist died on July 2nd of the journey and so Guyman became captain of the company for the remainder of the journey. They company arrived in Utah on September 7, 1855, and Ingeborg’s family carried on to Mt. Pleasant, where they were among the first pioneers to settle that area. She had eight children, five of whom were born in Norway, and three being born in Utah. Hendrick died in 1864, leaving Ingeborg a widow until her death in 1902.
