Biography
Eliza Ericksen Waldemar was born in Weiser, Norway on August 25th, 1844 to parents Henry and Ingeborg Ericksen. When she was about 10 years old, she and her family immigrated to the US, leaving Norway on November 24, 1854 on the steamer Cimbria, reaching England on December 24. From Liverpool, they boarded the James Nesmith and arrived in New Orleans on February 23. They then traveled by handcart in 1855 with the Jacob F. Secrist and Noah Guymond company. Secrist died on July 2nd of the journey and so Guyman became captain of the company for the remainder of the journey. They arrived in Mt. Pleasant in 1855, where they were among the first pioneers to settle that area. On May 10, 1863, she married John Waldemar, with whom she had 12 children, 8 of whom survived to adulthood.
