Biography
Elin was born in Sweden and came to Utah in 1881 with her mother, maternal grandmother, and two brothers, all while her mother was pregnant with her sister. Her parents divorced when she was young and their name became Jensen in America. Her mother remarried and she was raised by her step father and had six step siblings. The children grew up helping their parents with farm work and had a big garden of all sorts of produce. They had lots of friends over for food and parties. She continued to live in Northern Utah while growing up and often went by Mary Ellen. Elin married Joseph Nelson in 1896 and they had 11 children, three of which passed away within a year of their birth. She was an active member of the church throughout her life.
