Biography

Anine was born the fourth of six children. Her and her siblings would help their parents with sewing, selling fish, and farming potatoes. Her father never joined the church and died when she was a child, but her mother taught Anine and her siblings the gospel. Anine was baptized a few months before she was eight and it was done at night, so they wouldn’t be stopped by those who opposed Mormonism. Her and her siblings then had to leave their mother behind, traveling to Utah with a missionary elder. She came to America in 1876 at age nine and after arriving in Ogden, Utah by train, she would live the rest of her life in northern Utah. Anine married Francis Joseph Law Sr in 1886 at age 19 and they would go on to have 10 children. They were loving parents and faithful members of the church. Anine’s faith is seen through many stories involving her family. On multiple occasions, her children became very ill (smallpox, seizures, and worms), but through their faith/prayers and her husband’s priesthood blessings they were miraculously healed each time. Another story tells of how Anine followed a prompting from the Spirit when her kids were playing outside while she was making bread. Her actions saved her son from getting shot in the eye. Well loved by her family and community, Anine died in 1943 at age 76.
