Biography
Kjerstina Persdotter was born on June 9, 1801 in Hylteberga, Sjorup, Malmohus, Sweden. She married Hans Olsson, a widower, on December 12, 1828, when they were both 27 years old. They had eight children, five daughters and three sons, as well as a stillborn daughter. In 1855, Kjerstina and her youngest daughter, Hanna, walked six miles to Slimminge, Sweden, where they were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Four of Kjerstina's five daughters became members as well.
From 1862-1863, all four of her daughters who had been baptized members of the Church emigrated to Utah. After several years of saving, Kjerstina and her husband left for America in 1866, finally joining their daughters in Utah in September of that year. Despite being sixty-six years old by the time they reached Utah, Kjerstina adjusted to her new life in Utah well and enjoyed being near her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren until her death on April 27, 1888 in Mount Pleasant, Sanpete, Utah.
