Biography
Hanna Olsson was born on November 27, 1842 in Skurup, Malmöhus, Sweden. She was the last daughter of Kjerstina Charsty Persdotter and Hans Olsson. In 1855, she and her mother walked five miles at night in order to be baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As they desired to join the Saints in Utah, Hanna and her older sister Elisa worked at a dish factory in Copenhagen to raise money.
In 1862, when Hanna was just nineteen years old, she left her family behind to sail to America. While crossing the plains, she met Orange Seely, who she married on July 24, 1863. They lived in Mount Pleasant for many years, welcoming Hanna's sisters and parents when they came to Utah as well. In October 1880, Hanna and her family were called to help settle Castle Valley. They moved their whole family to this barren area of Utah.
Hanna had nine children, three sons and six daughters. She lived the rest of her life in Castle Dale, where she died on November 27, 1934, at the age of ninety-two years.
