Biography
Ella Jonsson was born on 7 November 1825 in Ytteryg, Färila, Gävleborg, Sweden to Jonas Stener and Ella Mikkelsdatter. She married Oluf Wicklund in their hometown in Gävleborg in 1847. They moved to Copenhagen in order to move to America in 1850, but it did not work out and they stayed in Denmark for a time. Ella met the missionaries while living in Denmark and was baptized in 1851, along with her father. Shortly afterward, Oluf also chose to be baptized. In 1856, the family of six chose to finally move to America. They traveled on the ship Thornton. Once they arrived in America, the family joined the Willie handcart company to travel to Utah. Ella made this trek while pregnant and gave birth to her son Jacob in Wyoming surrounded by the suffering that followed the Willie handcary company. The Wicklunds moved to Manti where Olof eventually died in 1857. Ella would marry Morten Sorensen in 1858 with whom she had four more children. Ella was a hardworking woman, who overcame many trials to move to Utah. She died on 3 January 1867 in Washington, Utah.
