Biography
Josephine was born on October 24, 1854 to Ella Jonsson and Olof Wicklund. Though her family was Swedish, she was born in Copenhagen as the family had moved in order to emigrate. In 1856, when Josephine was two years old, the family traveled to America on the ship Thornton. After this, they joined the Willie handcart company and faced much travail. During the difficult journey, Olof nailed straps to the side of the cart to help pull young Josephine and her sister Sarah along. The family ended up settling in Manti where Olof died shortly thereafter. In 1873, Josephine married Hans Nielsen Tuft at the age of 19. Josephine and Hans had seven children. She died on June 27, 1937 at the age of 83.
