Biography
Wilhelmina Jorgensen was born on November 5, 1847 in Sonder Hojrup, Denmark. She was the fourth of seven children. She and her family learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in 1859, she joined the Church. Her father did not approve of them becoming members, and he disowned Wilhelmina, her mother, Johanne, and her two sisters, Marie and Ida.
In 1863, Wilhelmina, her mother, and her sisters emigrated to the United States and made the difficult trek to Utah to be with other Saints. Wilhelmina worked in Provo for about a year until May 14, 1864, when she married Peter Madsen and moved to Lakeview, Utah, with him. She was one of five wives, and had eleven children with him. Wilhelmina lived until February 19, 1919, when she died in Provo, Utah.
