Biography
Johanne J. Pedersdatter was born on May 5, 1813 in Ringe, Denmark. She was the second of eight children. In 1845, she married Niels Jorgensen. They had eight children together, but only two of their daughters and one of their sons lived to adulthood. Sometime around 1859, Johanne learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and converted along with three of her daughters. However, her husband did not approve of the church or their membership.
In 1863, Johanne split with her husband and left for Utah with her daughters Wilhelmina, Marie, and Ida. It is unclear if Marie made it to Utah, but Johanne and her other two daughters settled in Provo, Utah. Johanne married Jens Knudsen, another Danish immigrant, in 1865. She lived in Provo for the rest of her life and passed away there on November 3, 1886, at the age of seventy-three.
