Biography

Mariane Nielsdatter was born on April 8, 1826 in Norre Tranders, Denmark. She was the fifth of six children. In 1847, she married Jens Christian Anthon Lind. They had eleven children, six daughters and five sons, together. At some point, likely around 1850, Mariane and her husband became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mariane's three sisters also joined the Church and emigrated to Utah, likely financially supported by the Linds.

In 1868, the Lind family, with six of their seven living children (their oldest daughter had made the journey the year before), made the long journey to Utah. Mariane's youngest son died during their journey across the Atlantic on the "Emerald Isle" ship. They traveled to Utah with the John G. Holman company. After arriving in Utah, Mariane had her last daughter in Ephraim before eventually moving to Ogden, Utah. Her husband died in 1878. Twenty years later, in 1898, Mariane married Wesley Thomas Rose, a man from Canada. She died only a year later on September 27, 1899, in Ogden, Utah, at the age of seventy-three.
