Biography
Johanne Margrethe Hansdatter was born on June 8, 1807 in Grænge, Denmark. She was the fifth of six children. On May 29, 1835 she married Peder Hansen, and they settled in Vester Ulslev, Denmark. They had four children, three daughters and a son, together. However, only their two oldest daughters lived into adulthood. In 1852, she and her family met missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and readily accepted their message. They were baptized members of the church that same year.
In December of 1853, Johanne and her family left Denmark behind to make the difficult journey to join the Saints in Utah. They crossed the Atlantic on the ship Benjamin Adams and journeyed across the plains with the Hans Peter Olsen company.
Johanne and her husband settled in Ephraim, Utah. They worked hard to make a living for themselves as settlers. Johanne was patient and kind through all of her trials in this new land. She died on March 14, 1875 in Ephraim.
