Biography

Helene Christine Pedersdatter was born on December 12, 1839 in Vestermarie, Bornholm, Denmark. She was the ninth of ten children. When she was only six years old, her father died, and her mother remarried four years later. In 1852, her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and shortly after, they left to join the Saints in Utah. Helene was thirteen years old when they made the journey, arriving in Utah in September of 1853.

In 1858, Helene married John Urquhart Letham, an immigrant from Scotland. She was his first of three wives. They settled in Wellsville, Utah, and had eleven children together, three daughters and eight sons. Sometime after 1881, Helene moved with her family to Pleasant Valley, Montana, where she had her last child. She later relocated to Tetonia, Idaho, where she passed away on April 14, 1900 at the age of sixty.
