Biography

Hansine Sorensdatter was born on March 28, 1831 in Randers, Denmark. She was the second of two daughters. Sometime before 1857, Hansine's family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and decided to go join the Saints in Utah. They left Denmark in 1857, though it is unclear if Hansine's sister Maren came with them.

In Iowa, the family stayed waiting for two years for Hansine's fiancé to join them. Her father died in 1858, but the next year, her fiancé joined them. Hansine married Rasmus Nielsen in 1859 in Nebraska as they started out on their journey across the plains. When the family finally arrived in Utah, they settled in Bountiful before moving to Weston in what would later become Idaho. Hansine and Rasmus had four children, two daughters and two sons, together. Hansine lived in Weston until she died on October 15, 1909.
